I know the fashion industry is amazing... but it also carries many problems.
What concerns you the most?
Body issues, racial issues, fur... ?
I pick fur. I find it very cruel and unnecessary.

The two big ones for me is racism and body issues.

I hate how racism is still going on in the fashion industry, You would think since so far many successful Black models like Donyale Luna, Beverly Johnson, Iman, Namoi, Waris, Alek, Tyra, Liya who have paid the way for black models just to be take serious as a model.

That black models would have it easier by now. Its like the fashion industry just love to only have 1 to 3 top black models at one time, why cant it be more as it is for white models.

60's only black model was Donyale Luna, 1st black supermodel
70's-80's Beverly Johnson, and Iman
90's Tyra, Namoi, Alek
2000's & now Liya, and Chanel

The body issue is another, the models are ask to be very thin, too thin,. Which is not healthy, for their bodies, causing them to health problems later down the road, as they get older.

And if they are not at the size they are suppose to be them, some take extreme measures to get to that size, if its not eating, then its eating then throwing up the food after.

Not eating causing young girls to lose their life over a career.
There has been to many models losing their life over the fashion industry

the ethnic model and the body debate go hand in hand if you think about it ... dont you think all the successful Black models are like scarily thin??? well unnaturally thin. I dont know about other people but I had a friend who was black, her mother was african ... well anyway she was slim but found it incredibly hard to stay so ... apparently something to do with genetics she claimed Black women were always a bit bigger ... you no in certain areas??? it always made me laugh when she's talk about her bum it was funny ... well anyway it makes me think that perhaps these models have put their bodies through hell ... who knows eh ... it's just a thought. How much harder are they pushing themselves????

surprisingly, I haven't been rejected due to race. where I live, Asian models are nearly one in hundreds. Maybe even more. Seeing that my kind is so rare, I haven't dealt with the hardcore competition that Asians in NY or Asia must deal with for one tiny movie role or one tiny runway spot.

But this whole world has never had an Asian top model. There were black top models, white, brazilian, whatever... yet not a single Asian can make it to the top. And all the Asians I ever do see are typecasted. Even in modeling/acting/singing/everything else! i.e. I do not have naturally "chinky" eyes, but sometimes clients purposely try to make me chinky because well... (Oriental) Asians like myself are supposedly chinky eyed! I'm no Hye Park and do not look anything like her, but we're both Korean so we always get compared. Rolling Eyes I also didn't get a play part once because "you're acting was splendid and superior but your skin color doesn't fit, therefore you cannot play the part". awesome.

The racism in general digusts me more than anything with this industry and it might be because i'm a minority in the modeling world.

I've never seen a model friend of mine go totally anorexic, (I've seen many smoke and diet but never go hardcore) so i guess, in a way racism personally affected me more than the body image.

I completely agree, Jenni. Cool I'd love to see an Asian top model, that would be just about the best thing ever! Omg, I almost cried when you wrote that thing about the "chinky" eyes... its so horrible that Asian models have to be treated this way I really think that it needs to be said outloud and proud. I mean, one of my bestfriends are Asian and she's totally goregeous... yet she's always getting you know the typical (and it hurts me to even write this) "ching chong China" thing said to her face. It's almost heartbreaking... I'm sorry if I'm being dramatic, it's just that racism really wants to make my cry sometimes. I hate accepting the fact that it's never going to go away Sad

Oh and the whole anorexic/bulimic thing is pretty horrific too.
