I know thats why I hate the body image thing (not personal experience I must stress xxxx) |
surprisingly, I haven't been rejected due to race. where I live, Asian models are nearly one in hundreds. Maybe even more. Seeing that my kind is so rare, I haven't dealt with the hardcore competition that Asians in NY or Asia must deal with for one tiny movie role or one tiny runway spot.
But this whole world has never had an Asian top model. There were black top models, white, brazilian, whatever... yet not a single Asian can make it to the top. And all the Asians I ever do see are typecasted. Even in modeling/acting/singing/everything else! i.e. I do not have naturally "chinky" eyes, but sometimes clients purposely try to make me chinky because well... (Oriental) Asians like myself are supposedly chinky eyed! I'm no Hye Park and do not look anything like her, but we're both Korean so we always get compared. I also didn't get a play part once because "you're acting was splendid and superior but your skin color doesn't fit, therefore you cannot play the part". awesome.
The racism in general digusts me more than anything with this industry and it might be because i'm a minority in the modeling world.
I've never seen a model friend of mine go totally anorexic, (I've seen many smoke and diet but never go hardcore) so i guess, in a way racism personally affected me more than the body image. |
I was guessing sorry I am pleased that I was wrong in my guess cause you are ace! and YES WE NEED AN ASIAN TOP MODEL! |

Eeating disorders bothers me more, I mean, people die from it. There's too much pressure for women.
Alot of agencies mostly have white models because they're a business, and apart from the select few, white models get more work than the minority races. Sad, but true. |

I get really sad to see how people dont care about fur issues.
Racial and Body issues are very serious and concerning but EVERY year over 50 million animals die in extremely cruel ways just for fur. It's more than the WW2, every year... and nobody seams to care.
Very sad... |

That's what's so screwed over about the industry. But the industry is now setting new rules regarding health. (ie Spain banning BMI's under 18, NYC not having minors working past midnight, fashion shows being encouraged to have food backstage) I saw a picture of a model chowing on pizza back in a mag. It's slowly improving.
The racism thing is barely addressed, and plus, thin-ness can be bounced back. There's rehab, nutritionists, and magazines are encouraging health. D&G also had a plus-size lead the show a few years back. There's no rehab for being black, hispanic, asian, etc.

True. But the industry sells it as luxury wear, it's a big part of winter fashion and it's still very seen. |

I'm more concerned about body image. Because it touches everyone, not just one race. Its a huge problem.... |

Racism and the pressure to be thin.
It must be soooo hard for models to keep their weight down at such a low weight, I mean honestly how sick would it make for you to be 5 foot 10 and have to keep your weight down to 50 kilos?
The fur thing sort of bothers me less for some reason, I dunno maybe because I don't really see it happen all that much. |
