Hi!
I am starting to build my portfolio and I want to take professional pictures. Now I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for pictures! So, if there are any photographers in the Chicago area, or if anybody knows of any that wants to do an even exchange (build you photography portfolio and I'll build my modeling portfolio). Pleeesssse let me know!

If you are not a professional model and are trying to build a portfolio, then you will have to pay an arm and a leg for it. But, if you are a model and on an agency you shouldnâ€™t have to pay for it, as it is the agencies job to ensure you have all the required photographic material at no extra cost. If you are trying to get in to modelling, then a professionally made portfolio wont make the slightest bit of difference. Just take clear photographs of yourself in the following positions to the nearest modelling agency. Good Luck:
1) head and shoulders, hair down and smiling.
2) Head and shoulders, hair up, not smiling
3) Full length in plain trousers and white top
4) Full length swimwear.

You don't have to pay anything to build a portfolio. Get a digital camera and take a picture of yourself and then upload it to onemodelplace.com which you can join for free. In the notes section state that you are an amatuer looking for tfp (time for prints) shoots. As your location is listed, local photographers will contact you who are also looking to build their photography portfolio. They get your time and free modeling and in return you get your portfolio. You can also search for photographers on this site who specify whether or not they help models build portfolios and do tfp shoots and then contact them rather than wait for them to contact you. Always take a friend when meeting with people you don't know. Hope this helps and Good luck.

Dear Dawn Modeling,

I just read your post, I think it actually was your second, I'm not sure. However, after I read extraordinary bits of good suggestions and advises, I can't and will not ever let them go by without at least to say "Thank you."

There exists so many avenues for an aspiring model these days. Your suggestion with onemodelplace.com was excellent! In addition, models.com will do essentially the same, yet for a fee. Actually I think their fee is for registration.

I am still amazed at how many successful models originated at models.com. Therefore, anyone who reads this post, you're invited to help me as well. Ready? Are the aspiring models at MDC with the company before their stardom or after, could be both.

Example: Shelley Zander joined and we exchanged platitudes, etc,. etc. Within 30 to 90 days she signed with Karin NY and is doing shows and living in Paris now (I think!) It just seems to me that a lot of the folks over at MDC are getting a ton of work. Help?
