I'm a senior in high school right now and plan on pursuing modeling more vigorously after high school. I'll also go to MUD beauty school (they have campuses in NY and CA). I need help deciding which side of the US to go to and the positives and negatives to each place. Help me out pleeeeasssseee!!! :]:]

From what I know if depends on your look and measurements. If you are mainstream looking like a Heidi Klum looks it would be California if you are high fashion looking like Sasha Pivovarova or Coco Rocha try New York.

NEW YORK! I am from New York and I currently live in Manhattan. It's a great place-- very fashionable, after all, its the fashion capital of the world where most high fashion models live. NY is definitely better than California-- the people there are ridiuclously fake. I have lived in NY all my life so I do know what I am talking about. If you have any questions, I'll be sure to answer! Smile

Yes I agree I think you could get by whether or not you have a certain look or not in New York.

Hey andiekay!

I really must agree with the excellent advice offered by Dravon. It seems as though I've written or stated this during many a dilemma in the lives of those up and comers who hopefully one day will remember the "little folks" when the music is up and the only illumination is the spotlight on you as you grace the stage or whatever platform.

However, since you've mentioned MUD beauty school as another option this certainly throws a hook in the mix.

One, what type of modeling do you want to do? Are you fit for fashion modeling? Glamour? Parts modeling or maybe Fit modeling? Who knows Beauty models seem to be in huge demand all the time like glamour models.

One will undoubtedly find pros and cons for both places. One could say this about NY and then yet another say that about CA. Most of this decision is going to boil down to your own life style. Every successful person in either fashion or film have dual (mostly more) living arrangements. You know...the nice and very expensive trendy and chic apartment in NY; and, when it's time to network and rub shoulders with the bigs, then you're off to CA.

I've lived in both. There is just flat out too many great things about both to say one is better than the other with the exception of finances. From my experience NY is a bit more expensive than CA. Then again, NY rocks harder than CA does and one doesn't need a car nearly, nearly as much as if one lives in CA. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Let me know if I can help!

You need to pay to have a car in NYC. And it's extremely difficult to drive here. The apartments are more expensive, but waitresses make great money.

Also, yhough you may already be with MUD beauty school I would also send pictures to agencies in both areas. See which one you get more feedback from. If you don't get any from either then I guess you have to base it on other things!

thanks Onemorecup!

I say NY all the way! I live here and there are so many new models that live here too. But just remember. If you do go to NY, remember to always look your best, but look natural and fresh at the same time... you never know who's watching you! there are scouts all around this city, you know Wink
