Chanel Tries to Quiet Rumors About Karl’s Retirement

After rumors about Lanvin's Alber Elbaz replacing Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel surfaced for a second time over the weekend, Chanel denied the rumors for a second time. The house issued a statement that was pretty close to what they told Reuters in December, when the news organization reported that no matter what Chanel said, the label must be thinking about Karl's successor. In yesterday's statement, Chanel reiterated that Karl has a "long-term contract," adding, "Replacing him is not an issue." [Vogue UK]

Alessandra Ambrosio Calls Criticism of Her Weight ‘Ridiculous’

Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio recently did a swim shoot on St. Barts with Brooklyn Decker and plus-size model Crystal Renn for Glamour's cover. After shots of Ambrosio posing next to plus models surfaced, ABC News wrote her body "bears closer resemblance to a pre-pubescent teenager than a 29-year-old mother." Ambrosio, who has called herself "a curvier girl," is not regularly targeted by the media for being too thin. But the tabloids have finally cut Keira Knightley and Kate Bosworth a break, so who will fill their monthly quotient for "thin watch" stories? Ambrosio spoke to WWD:
“I’ve been tiny since I was four, and I eat whatever I want,” she told WWD. “All that matters is that I stay healthy.”

She adds:
“If I’m two pounds heavier, I’m fat. If I’m skinnier, I’m sick. It’s ridiculous,” she said. “And that’s not coming from agents or designers.”

Ambrosio gained 40 pounds during her pregnancy with now 18-month-old Anja and, according to WWD, "got back in shape" in two months. Her fitness routine includes running, Pilates, yoga, and sessions with a personal trainer, with whom she's never canceled an appointment. It's the sort of discipline you'd expect from a superstar model; these kinds of women, as Heidi Klum and Gisele Bündchen have also proved, generally have a freakish ability to get their model figures back quickly after birth. But they are paid a ton of money to do it. Now measuring 34-25-34.5, Ambrosio says she and her daughter "certainly eat."

The scent launched in 2007 with Sasha Pivovarova as the face, and Fashion Spot commenters think the campaigns look similar. Lara has brown eyes, but they're blue in the photo, like Sasha's. Terry Richardson: ‘I’m Really Hurt’

About a week and a half ago, models began coming forward with stories about Terry Richardson's alleged sexual misconduct on shoots. Finally on Saturday morning, Richardson, who had not said anything on the matter, took to his blog to defend himself:
I just want to take a moment to say I’m really hurt by the recent and false allegations of insensitivity and misconduct. I feel fortunate to work with so many extraordinary people each and every day.
I’ve always been considerate and respectful of the people I photograph and I view what I do as a real collaboration between myself and the people in front of the camera. To everyone who has embraced and supported me and my work, I am so grateful. Thank you, it means a lot.

Last week, industry sources told Fashionista that they did not expect these stories to affect Richardson's employment. “Aside from being a great photographer, Terry’s very popular. I think his friends in the business won’t throw him overboard because of some 'Page Six' scandal,” one said. Another recalled Kate Moss's 2005 drug scandal. Though she lost some contracts immediately after the story broke in the tabloids, she continued working for major fashion brands and appearing in major fashion magazines. And just look at how well she's doing today.
