09 Aug 2008: Kate Moss could take Topshop range to China
Sir Philip Green, the Topshop owner, is reported to be signing a deal to rent space in the Shanghai Superbrand Mall and is looking at other deals in Beijing and Hong Kong.
Topshop wants to sell to the young Chinese who have more disposable income thanks to their country's booming economy.
Sir Philip is reported to have asked Miss Moss to lead the launch with the collections she has designed for the store. Miss Moss was paid around £3 million to put her name on a range inspired by her own wardrobe for Topshop in Britain.
She also helped with the creation of Topshop at the New York department store Barneys.
China's size means that there is potentially even more money to be made by the supermodel with sources within the clothes trade estimating that Miss Moss could make between £15 million and £25 million.
The enthusiasm of the Chinese to keep up with the latest Western fashions means that the venture is likely to be a money spinner.
One industry source was reported as saying: "For the Chinese teenager with an eye on Western fashions, Kate Moss is pretty much the coolest person on the planet. Philip Green knows that only too well."
Miss Moss also has fashion deals with designer labels like Versace, Bulgari and Rimmel.
Sir Philip said: "Nothing has been confirmed yet."
