I've not met any BIG names, because I don't model in NYC. I'm in highschool still and my school will not allow that because of strict absence policies (plus my dad is very hesitant about me going)
I've met Mimi Roche (with IMG, she's very sweet) and Ali Michael (most know her...) though. Lots of my learning comes from makeup artists/clients or more experienced models as well.
6 or 7 months now. I'm more a print-y than a runway person (i'm still learning those horrid heels ), though I have done runway too (oddly enough I'm considered a look for a "wild-child" as someone once called it, which is funny because I'm far from one).
Yeah, everything I say is probably nicer (and more basic) than whatever people deal with in New York or Paris or Milan. Modeling's a pretty ugly world over there from what my agent told me. |

you can always try going local (unless you live in NY then... NY is local...). Not everyone is rude, in fact, lots of people are nice. But you still meet those occasional meanies you know? |

I wrote it in another thread, but maybe more might see it if it's posted here too...
Proper Pictures to send to an agency
(if they didn't give the most specific of instructions that is...)
Tools and Setting: Polaroids (the kind that instantly develop are the best), natural lighting, no or minimal makeup (meaning maybe a little face powder and clear gloss, anything else is not a good idea), natural hair, no poses, no retouching.
Types of Pictures: One close up of your face straight forward, one of you smiling, one of each profile, one of your straightforward body
What to Wear: NO HEELS. Agencies do know if you wear heels or not. The best bet is no shoes at all. Your clothes should be really simple (no patterns) and fitting. A bikini shows your measurements well, so do shorts (like Soffes?). For the more conservative people wear leggings or tights underneath, or skinny jeans are great! A fitting solid tee should do the trick.
Other Things to Know: DO NOT lie about your height or measurements. I once was chatting with one of my agents and he complained that the guys applying kept lying about their height. (hahaha!) I know that I was once asked if my hair color is natural (it is, I've never dyed my hair before). Be honest about tans or hair color. If they want to meet in person, also wear minimal makeup. |

I prefer not to say because I'll never be comfortable. some awkward phobia? maybe...
I actually do both. I do, however suck at runway. don't receive tips from me about how to walk. I've never worn heels before modeling.
I also do small commerical ads every now and then. I can't do so much thanks to schooling conflicts (I'm involved with my school quite a lot, which is not a nice conflict with modeling)
everything I write i'm being told from the experienced makeup artists, agents, or other models. |
