Luxury Timepiece Company Cartier Sues Fashion Designer Donna Karan Over Use Of "Tank" Name

New York, NY (CNS) - Fashion designer Donna Karan has sued by luxury watchmaker
Cartier for allegedly ripping off its "Tank" trademark name.

The French jeweler claims that the New York-based designer copied its copyrighted
"Tank" watch name and used it on her own watchline. The company fears that consumers
might assume that the Donna Karan watches are affiliated with them.

Cartier says in the suit filed in Manhattan federal court, "It is apparent that defendant's
use of the Cartier 'Tank' trademark in connection with watches is willful and intentional
and done in willful disregard of Cartier's rights."

The lawsuit also adds that Karan made a very similar move in 2001 when it used 'Tank'
on its watches. The watches from the DKNY line were pulled out from the shelves after
receiving a cease-and-desist letter.

Cartier invented the "Tank" watch in 1917 after founder Louis Carter got inspired with
the World War I military tanks. They cost over $10,000 while the DKNY version costs a
mere $115.
