$1000 Face Cream

Talk about bad timing. The stock market plunged (yet again) the same day that La Prairie
delivered press kits to editors announcing their new $1,000 jar of face cream.

Cellular Cream Platinum Rare is made with real platinum--a small amount of the stuff,
you have to assume, since the company claims that “all of it that has ever been mined
could fit in a single room.” (That would have to be a big room, judging from the daily
emails I get from the Platinum Guild about stars wearing the precious metal. But I
digress.)

The media materials include a tiny sample in a jar whose interior is shaped like a
diamond, reinforcing the idea that this is jewelry for your dermis. I believe in paying for
quality products, but one grand for 1.7 ounces? I’d rather save the money for a facelift.

What's the point.. I mean there was a £1.49 face cream from ALDI that worked wonders and loads of people were raving about it. Who would really spend $1000 on a tiny bit of cream that might not work? Well, Madonna, maybe.
